GAUTENG SCHOOLS TO DEBATE ABOUT THE COUNTRY’S PRODUCTIVITY

Young people are faced with the challenge of spearheading and carving the road to economic success in this country. This even poses a tough test to organizations that deal with the youth in trying to prepare this cream of the country for its future role as productive citizens. For this reason Productivity SA implements a Productivity Awareness programme in schools annually, to expose Grade 11 learners from different schools around the country, to the concept and values of productivity. This year’s Gauteng Provincial Finals have been achieved through a partnership with EDCON group, South African Schools Debating Board, and the Gauteng Department of Education. The intention of the debate is to ensure that when learners eventually join the mainstream economy, they are sensitised to productivity values and concepts and their impact on the economy.

This project also provides learners with an opportunity to develop life skills such as public speaking, topic presentation and self-confidence. Productivity SA believe in nurturing public speaking skills amongst learners, as they become critical for them during their future working lives. During this year’s Gauteng’s final competition learners from Modiri High School vs Tholulwazi High School and Midrand Parallel High School vs Fons Luminis High School will engage each other on the critical topic “Do South African learners conduct their school studies productively?”. Then the two finalist will “Do strikes have a negative impact on productivity?” to decide the 2007 Gauteng Province Winner, that will compete on the national level in 5 October 2007.

The 2007 Gauteng Provincial schools debate competition will take place as follows:

Date :   Tuesday 28 August 2007
Time :   12:00 till 16:00
Venue :
The Midrand Parallel School
