CAPE PRODUCTIVITY AWARDS

 

This prestigious Productivity SA Cape Productivity Awards honours organisations from the corporate, public and emerging sectors for their contribution to building South Africa’s productive capacity and showcases the productive successes in our country. The aim of the awards is to increase the competitiveness and productivity of South African organizations.

 

The following organizations were the finalists in the 2007 Western Cape Awards held today at Table Bay Hotel, Waterfront, Cape Town.

 

Corporate Sector

Productivity SA Productivity Awards are aimed at increasing productivity in the country and are open to private and public sector organisations. Nominees go through a rigorous criteria based on impact achieved from productivity quantifiable to the nation, communities, organisations or individuals, how it was achieved and how sustainable it is. Aspects which entrants are judged on include:

 

PRODUCTIVITY APPROACH

What did the company want to accomplish and how did it achieve this?

Are there clear objectives for productivity improvement?

Is management actively involved?

Is labour actively involved?

How does the company manage productivity? (i.e. measuring performance, strategic planning)  

 

RESULTS AND IMPACT

Financial Results (ie improvements, trends and targets, benchmark results with competitors)

People Results (employee performance & recognition, absenteeism, incentives)

Customer Results (% returns/complaints from customers, satisfaction index)

Operational Results (has the broader community benefited and how)

 

ADDITIONAL INFO

Challenges/Obstacles that were overcome and how (e.g. human resource, rising material, labour costs, outdated machinery, insufficient productivity management competencies)

Sustainability and Transferability (will the productivity initiative last – what mechanisms have been put in place and is it transferable by eg building skills and productive capacity?)

Social and Environmental Impact (jobs created, benefits to stakeholders, potential impact on environment, better motivated employees, remuneration benefits etc)

Quality, Safety and Working Environment (does a work environment exist that enhances employee health and satisfaction.

 

The Regional Cape Productivity Awards forms the first round in the annual National Productivity Awards to be held in October 2007. Entries are short-listed according to a rating system, and nominees are selected after evaluation based on impact achieved from productivity quantifiable to nation, communities, organisations or individuals, how it was achieved and sustainability.
