KZN PRODUCTIVITY AWARDS TO HIGHLIGHT
These prestigious awards are the brainchild of Productivity SA in partnership with the Pietermartizburg and Durban Chamber of Business and form part of the first round of the National Productivity Awards held annually during October in Gauteng.
“The importance of the Productivity Awards is undeniable. The positive strides South Africa has already made in developing a productive and competitive mindset is reflected in the country’s productivity growth rate of 3% a year since 1996, and SA’s rise up the world competitiveness index to 44th place out of 61 countries.” says Productivity SA Executive Director, Dr Yvonne Dladla.
She adds: “South Africa faces major challenges in creating employment opportunities and stimulating economic growth. If South Africa is to reduce unemployment and poverty, and increase its economic growth, emphasis should be on developing productive capacity in all sectors of the economy.”
South Africa needs to focus on critical growth sectors and on making our enterprises more competitive. Moreover, there is an urgent need to address job creation and ensure previously neglected sectors have access to knowledge, skills resources and technology. It is from this perspective that Productivity SA would like to demonstrate that productivity is not only an efficiency measure in terms of inputs and outputs. It is fundamentally a drive to add more and more value - in the individual, organizational and social contexts. Finalists on the Corporate and Emerging Sectors will be awarded at the International Convention Centre, Durban, on Thursday, 30 August 2007 from 09:00-13:00.
Entries are short-listed according to a rating system, and nominees are selected after evaluation based on impact achieved from productivity quantifiable to nation, communities, organisations or individuals, how it was achieved and sustainability.
