How to be more productive
Productivity improvement is not a job for specialists only - it should be a way of life for everybody. Try to include these tips into all aspects of your life, at home, work or play. Brought to you by Productivity SA- championing productivity and inspiring a more competitive South Africa.
1. When you wake up each day, make a conscious decision to have a positive attitude towards everything that comes your way. A positive mindset can move mountains. The productive difference between a motivated person and an unmotivated person can be as much as 60%!
2. Productivity can never be left to chance! Plan your day. Make a list of goals that need to be achieved each day, and tick them off as you complete them. This will ensure you have a mission, and that you remain focused on completing today's goals. Don't allow yourself to be side-tracked into doing less important things first!
3. Once you have finished planning, make sure that you are prepared for everything. Go through your list and make sure you have all the tools you need to complete your goals first time. But remember, productivity is about dong more with less, so use only what you need!
4. Delegation allows you to concentrate on your important goals for the day and not waste your time on less important tasks. Multiply your productivity by sharing your goals and mission with your team or family!
5. Do productivity checks. Every few hours ask yourself: "is this the best use of my time today?" If it's not, stop doing that activity, and delegate it to someone else or plan it for another day. Many time wasting activities are done out of habit - try to break yourself of them.
6. Be innovative - get your creative juices flowing and think of better ways of doing things. At home, work or play, try to streamline your life, and work smarter and not harder.
7. Commitment means you see a thing through and remain dedicated even when faced with challenges. Productivity is producing more satisfaction with less effort. So, if you have set yourself a goal to get things done, stick to it, but try and be innovative in solving the challenge - that way - less effort! The best thing about commitment is that great sense of success when your goal is finally achieved.
8. Take accountability for your actions, that way you'll make sure you are more productive by doing everything 100% right, first time!
9. Be a leader, a good leader inspires followers and sets a productive example. If you save on wastage and use your resources more effectively, including your time, people will see the results and follow suit.
10. Lastly, see yourself as one of the most important productive assets that the world has! No matter whom you are or what you do, you play an important part in making our country more competitive. By each of us being more productive and finding better ways of doing things, we're contributing to the economy and helping to improve the lives of all South Africans.
