SA’s SMME competitiveness and productivity set to increase through shared vision

A partnership has been struck between the Small Enterprise Development Agency (seda) and Productivity SA to increase productivity and competitiveness - and the country’s small business sector which currently languishes at number 43 out of 60 countries in the World Competitiveness Rankings is set to benefit.

Sharing a common vision and bringing together their competencies, the two institutions will ensure maximum advantage for small businesses. Productivity SA’s successful Productive Capacity Building Programme (PCBP) which has already built up a shining track record in Gauteng, Kwa-Zulu Natal, and Free State will be used to train small enterprises and short-listed service providers in productivity concepts needed to ensure the long term sustainability and profitability of small business enterprises.

According to the CEO of seda, Mrs Wawa Damane, “partnerships are an important element of seda’s delivery mechanism. We believe productivity is a key success factor for any small business and are therefore delighted to have Productivity SA on board as partners in providing this service.”

This partnership is Productivity SA’s and seda’s response to ASGISA. It aims to accelerate the move from the second economy by nurturing and developing small entities into productive enterprises that are competitive and sustainable, as well as creating good jobs.  It also addresses the key ASGISA skills development issue by educating and training service providers on productivity concepts who will then fast track the process by training small enterprises.

Productivity SA’s Executive Director, Dr Yvonne Dladla adds, “Productivity SA believes that increased productivity levels can lead to growth and development within the SMME sector. This partnership will act as a guiding hand to nurture and develop our SMMEs into productive and competitive entities with the capacity to positively influence our economy and assist with ASGISAs objectives.”

This partnership forms part of a greater strategy whereby government agencies combine their specialized areas of expertise and services, maximizing the use of resources for the greatest impact and benefit.
